Certificate Course in Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education

This course will extend the knowledge and abilities of participants to an advanced level. Graduates of this course will be able to receive Certification for work in Steiner Early Childhood Education.
It is of advantage for the learning process if participants are already working with children in a Steiner setting.

Pre-requisites

Completion of the 'Foundation Course in Rudolf Steiner Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
 Applicants with a background of working with young children in Steiner settings may be eligible for recognition of prior learning. Please contact Parsifal College about options.

Sydney:

6 Fridays during each school term ( 4 terms)
Time: 9.15am - 3 pm
Venue: Rudolf Steiner House Sydney, 307 Sussex St. Sydney 2000 (in the city centre)

Term 1: February 13 - April 3
Term 2: May 1 - June 19
Term 3: July 24 - September 18
Term 4: October 16 - December 4


Melbourne:

4 Holiday Intensives of 4 days each during the year
Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Intensive 1: January 18 - 21, 2009
Intensive 2: April 5 - 8, 2009
Intensive 3: September 20 - 23, 2009
Intensive 4: January 2010 (dates to be announced)

The courses in Sydney and Melbourne require both a minimum of 15 students.

Work Placement

Students are required to complete a work placement of three weeks (15 days) in a Steiner early childhood setting. If a student is already working in such a setting, the tasks and supervision can be undertaken in the workplace.

Co-requisite
In order to receive certification students will be required to demonstrate they have completed a minimum of 100 hours study in an Anthroposophical structured program.
Parsifal College recommends that applicants/students without a background in Anthroposophical Studies complete the Educaredo Distance Education Course in Anthroposophy. This course can be studied from home before, during or after the Intensives. Fees for the co-requisite study in Anthroposophy are not included in the Course fee as shown below.

Per Term/Intensive: $ 420 incl. GST

Fees are to be paid to Parsifal College in advance for each term/intensive.

Work placement visit and evaluation: $150

Qualification:
Participants who have completed the course successfully will receive Certification by Parsifal College which will demonstrate to employers that in depth studies in Steiner Early Childhood Education have been undertaken.

Overview of the Course Programme:

1. Essentials of Early Childhood  Development and Education:

This module will assist participants in deepening their understanding of child development and will include the study of essential texts by R. Steiner

2. Methodology of Steiner early childhood education:

This module will assist in learning to understand and work with a methodology derived from Steiner's insights. Areas: It will include classroom managemen and the inner development of the teacher.

3. Child Study

This module will assist in learning to observe and interpret observations and information about a child in the light of the Anthroposophical spiritual understanding of the human being. This will include the aspects of temperament, constitutional type, school readiness and the education of the will. Students will learn how to work with a holistic picture of the individual child.

4. Children in the World of Today

This module will deal with issues of childhood today, such as the effects of the modern life style and modern technology on children and education.

 Child Health and Nutrition

The issues of child health and nutrition and the causes of challenging behaviour in children will be investigated. In addition ways  of supporting parents in caring for and nurturing their children will be studied.

6. Elements of the Steiner Early Childhood Program

In this module a deepening and further practice will be provided in:

This module is experiential and based on participants engaging in artistic processes which will have a transformative quality.
